The experience

Your print isn't finished yet.

It's still the piece you matched with. I just finish it by hand, for you, in three steps between checkout and your wall.

  1. i.Your print reaches the studio
  2. ii.I finish it by hand
  3. iii.A letter, written to you
  4. iv.The certificate, sealed
  5. v.It leaves the studio
  6. vi.You open it
  7. vii.On your wall
i.

We talk, before I touch anything.

A short call, right after checkout. Nothing to decide: you've already matched. I want to know why this piece, out of everything in the collection. What was happening in your life when you stopped on it, and what you saw in it, even if you can't name it yet.

What you tell me decides the marks I add, so the finished print reflects how you, specifically, matched with it.

ii.

I finish it by hand, for you.

Using what came up on the call. Never a repaint, never a different piece: a symbol added, a few drops of colour, a handful of lines, placed by hand. Small enough that it's still exactly the piece you matched with, just closer to you.

It takes real time, because it's finished after you, not before you.

iii.

We talk again, once it's on your wall.

Once you've lived with it a few days. What the work you matched with is actually saying, symbol by symbol, mapped back to everything from the first call.

"I don't know why, but this speaks to me" finally gets its answer.

If it's a gift, the first call is with you, so the piece carries what you see in them. The second is with them, once it's on their wall.

Taste fades. What you told me twice doesn't.

Why I do it this way

A match happens before you have words for it.

You stop in front of a piece and you can't explain why. That's the match, and it's real. But a feeling without words fades, and a piece you can't explain slowly becomes decoration.

So I ask. Two conversations connect what you felt to your story: what was happening in your life, what you recognised in it. The piece stops being something you liked, and becomes something you understand.

In the end I chose See Me Now. I couldn't tell you whether it's for the reasons you had in mind when you painted it, but it stopped me straight away. The black seems to hold everything back, and the gold, at some point, decides to come out. Almost with a certain arrogance.

I recognise myself in it. I've spent most of my life building things, mostly behind the scenes. Lately I have less and less desire to make myself digestible, to over-explain myself, to stay inside forms already laid out.

Maybe this is a beautiful bit of nonsense I told myself five minutes after seeing it. But out of all of them, it's the one I kept coming back to. So I guess, by the rules of your game, it chose me.

What arrives

Nothing in it was made in advance.

i.

The piece

Finished by hand, for you, and signed.

ii.

A handwritten letter

Written to you, after our first conversation.

iii.

The certificate

Of authenticity, closed with a wax seal.

iv.

A small object

Cast from the work itself: something to carry with you on the days the wall isn't close enough.

10 to 15 daysfor a hand-finished print across Europe. 20 to 25 elsewhere.
5 to 7 daysfor an original. It arrives untouched, one of one, with the same letter, certificate and object.

How the match began

She matched with it before she understood why.

I used to look at my own works for hours. Not because I liked them: because I couldn't look away. When I showed them to strangers, the reaction was always the same.

"I don't know why, but this speaks to me."

Then, on a video call, a woman noticed a painting hanging behind me. She felt drawn to it and couldn't say why. I told her the title: Son of Lilith. She showed me the Lilith tattoo on her arm.

That's when I understood what these works do. They don't decorate a space. They carry the exact moment something finally got let out, and the right person recognises it.

Questions

Before you decide.

Will the finishing change the piece I matched with?

No. It's never a repaint and never a different piece. A symbol, a few drops of colour, a handful of lines: it stays exactly the work you matched with, just closer to you.

What if it's a gift?

The first call is with you, so the piece carries what you see in them. The second call is with them, once it's on their wall.

How long does it take?

A hand-finished print arrives in 10 to 15 days across Europe, 20 to 25 elsewhere. An original ships untouched in 5 to 7 days.

Is this a kind of therapy?

No. It's art. What you feel in front of a piece, and what you say in our conversations, is yours. I don't promise outcomes; I make the work and tell you honestly what I see in it.

What about duties and returns?

Outside the EU, duties and import taxes are paid by the recipient. A hand-finished print is made for one person; how returns work is set out in the refund and returns policy.
